How do I find out about future Auctions?

Several people have asked me something to the effect of, "How do I find out about future auctions?" Or if there will be a schedule of Auctions, or similar questions.

The direct answer to the first question is Yes. You may use any of the three options listed below, depending on your particular preferences.

  • You may ask to be added to the Auction Notification Mailing List using the 'eMail Notifications' link in the right column under 'My Services'.
  • Alternatively, you may Subscribe to the Site RSS (and ATOM) Syndication to receive Site News and Daily Discoveries feeds. Also find that link in the right column under 'My Services'.
  • Or, you may use the old fashioned method. Come back to this site often and see what is up and coming!

As to a Schedule of Auctions, there is a less definite answer. In general, I will be able to put up Auctions every three weeks. Holidays and other considerations may introduce appropriate delays, but I will be unlikely to put up Actions more frequently.

P.S. And yes, in the event you were wondering, the size of the E. Gary Gygax collection is substantial enough that I will be running auctions for this collection for a long while to come. I picked up the collection in January and February of this year. The collection takes up 104 banker's file boxes plus various loose and over-sized items, weighs one and a quarter tons (good thing I have have a strong back!), and consists of 14,000 individual items. I began cataloging and organizing the collection in January and completed organization and cataloging on November 15th of this year.

My initial organization of the materials was product and non-product. Product is simply items that Gary received, for various reasons or purposes, but never actually played. There are approximately 3,000 of these. The remainder of the collection is non-product. These include product items that were played, edited, read, reviewed, etc. by Gary. It also includes thousands of letters, hundreds of manuscripts, hundreds of contracts and documents, dozens of pieces of original artwork, awards, and numerous miscellaneous items.

The items in the collection range in age from 1956-2008.

I will start posting interesting items here on my website in the Daily Discovery section (top left column).

E. Gary Gygax Auction begins

The Collector's Trove announces the listing of the first of many auctions of the E. Gary Gygax Collection on eBay.

Find a link to this auction on eBay that was listed on December 08-09, 2010, with a finish on December 15-16, 2010 here

The Collector's Trove has been authorized to auction these and thousands of other items from the collection of E. Gary Gygax. These items were acquired by Gary over 55 years of amateur and professional involvement in war games, strategy games, card games, board games, and role-playing games, over a decade of that time spent as President of TSR, a company he founded, the company that launched the role-playing game industry. They also come from his time as head of Dungeons & Dragons Entertainment Corporation as he worked toward a Dungeons & Dragons feature length movie and produced the highly successful Dungeons & Dragons Saturday morning cartoon series. Finally, a number of the items come from his tenure as a fantasy and sci-fi publisher through NIPI and Trigee and as author of the popular Gord the Rogue and Magister Setne Inhetep novels and short stories.

Each numbered lot comes with its own unique Certificate of Authenticity personally signed by Gary’s widow Gail Gygax and an image of Gary’s own signature stamp from 1983.

Before Dungeons & Dragons, there were only six sorts of table-top games: pen and paper, board, card, dice, tile, and miniature games. When Gary wrote and published the rules for Dungeons & Dragons it introduced the world to whole new sort of game - the role-playing game. Furthermore, it introduced several novel concepts, not the least of which was that the players worked in a cooperative effort against the designs of a neutral referee. The popularity of this new form of gaming led early computer programmers to design programs that recreated their own Dungeons & Dragons experience. These games ultimately led to an explosion of interest and commercial success for fantasy and sci-fi adventure computer games, including those played over the internet and shared by millions of people worldwide. This has generated a level of economic success that has eclipsed the income of both the television and movie industry combined!

Gary's story is an American story. The story of an inventor and innovator. The story of a creator and a dreamer. The story of determination and daring. History will ultimately tell how Gary changed the world. All for the love of games.

Now you have the opportunity to be a curator of a portion of this legacy! I look forward to seeing your bids!
